Starting and Configuring
How to control Xampp 1. The Xampp control panel to start and stop your servers Apache and Mysql 2. Browser based configuration 3. Editing by hand with a text editor
Please follow these steps to get going.
Look for shortcut to start the Xampp Control Panel on your desktop. Double click to start Control Panel.

Your Xampp Control Panel should look like this.

Set services on for servers to start automatically at system startup. By checking the check boxes for both Apache and Mysql servers. This way you would not have to start them every time by hand. Please note: that this will not take effect till a system reboot.

Now lets start both servers for the first time. By clicking both the Apache start button and the Mysql start button. Next to each server name there should be a green highlighted "running" text. This may take a few seconds at first.

Please note: After you restart your computer your servers will work without having to start the servers by clicking the start stop buttons. You don't need to do this now it can be done later on.
Next lets open your default web browser.

Type this address in the address bar http://localhost/
Choose your Language of choice.

Click on the security link.

Scroll down to link

Click the link to secure the Mysql data base server. Please note: That this will open another browser window or tab.

Add your password to your Mysql server by default the system does not have one.
Remember the password entered as your going to need it to install Joomla or other scripts etc. Username: root Password: whatever you added
Your done here but you could add an .htaccess password file its not really that needed if your running a firewall software.
